Dine in style at 8,000 feet elevation
This is a mountain fine dining experience you won’t
soon forget. The Viking Dinner Yurt raises your altitude, and your
attitude, to new heights! Your evening adventure starts with a spectacular
moonlit sleigh ride with incredible views straight up the ski runs
and over the mountain ridge top. Most evenings you will be delivered
directly to The Viking Yurt. On specified evenings (marked "tour
also" on the calendar) the sleigh will take you to the lodge. There you are equipped with snowshoes. Follow your guide, as you schuss
through a pristine, winter wonderland. The terrain is gentle, and
the thrill of being the only ones on the top of the mountain at
night in the deep pine forest, is breath taking. Through the trees
ahead, you see the warm glow of the Viking Dinner Yurt. As you marvel
at the beautiful setting, you'll hear the music from within the
yurt and anticipate the gourmet five-course meal that awaits. Amid
laughter and live piano music on our baby grand piano, your party
gathers around the long wooden tables laden with glowing candles
and pewter dinnerware. Norwegian hospitality envelops you. Your
senses have never felt so alive as you take in the delicious aromas,
the candlelight, the sound of friends and family, the warmth of
the fire and the taste of a robust, yet elegant Scandinavian meal.
When the meal is complete, you’ll head back down the mountain
on the sleigh nestled under the heavy blankets gazing up at the
snowcovered giant trees and stars to the base of the resort. This is an evening you will talk about for years. Treat
your family, friends or traveling companions to an unforgettable
evening, in the Viking Dinner Yurt. Check availability through our
prices and reservation page and click on the month you are interested
in, or by calling (435) 615-YURT (9878) or e-mail us at vikingyurt@comcast.net
What's New for the 2010-11 Winter Season - We are relocating to Park City Mountain Resort! (so please don't show up at 6pm at The Canyons looking for us.)
We are excited to announce the Viking Yurt has a new heated cab for the back of our snow cat that seats 8 more people in addition to the 32 seats in the open sleigh. This will increase our capacity from 32 to 40 seats for our dinner event. So when you book your seats on line, be sure to choose yourself if you are booking seats in the open sleigh or the heated cab for your ride up and down the mountain.
Wine Service
A wine, beer and liquor selection is available at the Yurt.
Utah State liquor laws prohibit alcohol other than wine to be brought
to the Yurt and alcohol consumption on the sleigh ride. You may
bring your own wine but please be advised that a $15 corkage fee
will be applied to each bottle and the unopened wine bottle must
be delivered to the servers for a wine setup. This is typical of
any Utah restaurant and the law. We can e-mail you our beverage
list if you would like to see our wine/beer/champagne/liquor list
in advance. Our wines range in price from $30 to $130. If you bring
any alcohol other than unopened wine, we will take it from you rather
than lose our liquor license. So have a sense of humor with us in
following Utah's quirky liquor laws and please show us the same
respect you would any other fine dining establishment.
The Baby Grand Piano
Once inside the yurt, you’ll delight at the cozy atmosphere. The rich melodies
of a baby grand piano, played by a concert pianist, complement the night’s unique
experience. Where else can you have an intimate piano concert
while experiencing some of the best dining available? Request
a favorite song or slow dance between courses if the spirit moves you. Singers,
violins, accordions, guitars and harmonicas have all lent their special flavor
to the yurt. Private parties may arrange for their own musicians or ask for highly
impressive local musicians.
Moving the antique baby grand piano to the yurt is a story in itself.
Not one moving company would take the job. So Geir strapped a mattress
to their snowmobile trailer, loaded Joy's heirloom on top, and carefully
drove up the mountain on a bumpy ski maintenance road, pulling the
entire contraption behind the Vik’s Suburban. The local paper wished
they had taken pictures but Joy was too nervous to think of that.
The magic of the mountains at night experienced on the sleigh ride,
an incredible dinner combined with the beauty of the elegant piano
music in a yurt, is an experience that is unmatched anywhere in
the world.
The Sleigh Ride
Guests are transported up the side of the mountain in a snow cat-pulled
sleigh. This is a truly unique experience
that you won't find anywhere else in Utah. This custom designed
sleigh made just for The Viking Yurt holds 32 people and is equipped
with seats that face each other for an optimal party experience.
Warm, cozy blankets with wind and waterproof backing provide warmth
and comfort on even the chilliest nights. Start your evening off
with a moonlight ride up the side of the mountains. The valley lights
below and the stars above provide stunning views as you ascend straight
up the ski runs to 8,000 feet.

Private Parties
and Corporate Events
If you book the entire Viking
Yurt, with a capacity to seat 32-40 people,
your event can be customized to meet all your needs. It is important
you call or e-mail us the dates you want! We may have availability
for your group that doesn't list as available on the calendar.
A private event allows your group to have the entire yurt to themselves
so that the public can not attend that evening.
The Viking Yurt is the ultimate party setting for birthdays,
family reunions, rehearsal dinners, anniversaries and yearly
get-togethers with your favorite friends. We do provide children
entrees if you want a family reunion to create lifetime memories.
Plan a business meeting/dinner that your attendees will be talking
about for months. Organize a corporate retreat that both bonds
and inspires employees. We can accommodate your laptop computers,
screen and projector for your PowerPoint presentations in The Viking
Yurt. Your team will be energized by the adventure to either yurt.
Relax with a hot drink, conduct business and enjoy a gourmet, five-course
meal.
Here are some of the ideas for private party events;
On the sleigh ride up the mountain to The Viking Yurt you
can have the snowcat driver stop on the ridge where the views are
best to have your entire sleigh receive shots of Aquavit or Jaegermeister
served from an antique ski.
Norwegian brass cowbells are available with our logo on one side & your company logo on the other side. Bells create a more rowdy atmosphere inside the yurt.
Be your own entertainment! Conduct a roast, toast a private birthday,
anniversary or special event, honor someone with a once in a lifetime
experience. If you would like a custom poem or song written for
the occasion, a local writer is available to help you. Email Terry
Moffitt at terrylarry1@gmail.com Our
customers have given her rave reviews and her talents are legend
in Park City.

and how many are in your group.
What is a Yurt?
AYurt is a "portable" structure much like those used by
nomadic tribes in Mongolia over 2000 years ago. The domed, tent-like
structure sits on top of a portable wooden frame to create an efficient
shelter that is environmentally friendly. Despite
their rustic appearance, today’s Yurts are quite high tech. Bubble
wrap insulation developed by NASA provides warmth in winter and
a cool feel in the summer. Seams are electronically welded using
radio waves, which give the roof amazing strength and durability.
Sturdy fir rafters and steel rivets support the cone-shaped top
with a domed skylight at the apex. This overhead view and abundant
natural light give the yurt an open, airy feel. A Yurt offers people
an experience close to nature. You can hear the wind, see the snow,
enjoy the outdoors, but it’s comfortable and warm when you’re inside.
The Viking Yurt offers a much more sturdy and fancy version of a
yurt….an experience guaranteed to create memories.
